Learning to Fly Series
Finding a balance of nature and technology in our daily lives is as challenging as blending them together into a work of art.
This series joins the past with the present, wildlife resides with inanimate objects, and graphite does a graceful dance with collage. We are all a culmination of all our experiences and with Art I enjoy bringing it all into balance. Selecting disparate objects from nature and around the house, I enjoying the tension it creates.
These graphite drawings combined with collage are created on a professionally handcrafted birch wood panels and finished with two coats of archival satin varnish, resulting in a contemporary yet natural look. No glass or framing required, ready to hang.

Time Capsule Portraits (TM)
Time Capsule Portraits (TM) were born of my desire to represent who we are beyond our physical appearances. Each piece starts with a conversation with the subject, discussing what defines them today. Job, hobbies, sports, favorite foods and even everyday mundane activities.
Once I have a list of your favorites things, I find icons to represent them. Documenting the lives of others with graphite on paper I developed my own style leaving in my measuring marks, finding hidden geometric shapes, and allowing some object to vinett off the page. My followers have described my drawing style as resembling architectural drawings.

Organic Blueprints Series
I love to play in the places between realism and abstract. To find ways to exercise my inborn ability to draw realism which feels very technical, and to synthesize a new and more spontaneous reality into it. Reaching for a more interesting version of my chosen subjects that still 'works', provides a greater challenge to my intelligence and creativity. Hence, a more exciting journey. My goal in the end is to have created a more attractive and compelling image of the simple objects from which I began. Even in this modern age, I still equate beauty with art.
Many objects in this painting series were found in my kitchen. I began by executing a very detailed still life drawing using graphite pencils. I then used that original image to create copies for the abstract panels, balancing them all together with colored pencil and charcoal powder.
The entire piece is mounted on a wood panel and protected with two coats of archival satin varnish. All works Ready-to-Hang.

The Tree Chronicles

My commitment as an Artist is to bring hope and beauty into the world. As I cleaned up the litter on my adopted section of a California scenic highway, amid the food wrappers and alcohol containers, I came across a section of the San Francisco Chronicle. An interesting idea came to mind, to turn newspaper back into trees again.
Would this be reverse recycling? Hence, 'The Tree Chronicles' series was born.
Slender, solid lines of re-used newsprint trees contrast an abstract watercolor background Each piece offers a gentle reminder that if we do not stop trashing the planet, trees will not grow from our garbage in the future. The overall result is an aesthetically alluring composition with a hidden message about protecting our forests.
Protected with two coats of archival varnish, this contemporary piece requires no framing.
